The football world lost another icon on Sunday: Franz Beckenbauer. In the AD Football Podcast, Etienne Verhoeff and Maarten Wijffels reflect on the death of The Kaiser. Wijffels also enjoyed Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro at AZ in Spain, they discuss transfers and Peter Bosz's PSV. And Lex Lammers speaks about the important month for Vitesse.
“What is always remembered is how Beckenbauer came on the Dutch bus after that semi-final at the 1988 European Championship to congratulate the Dutch team on the victory,” says Wijffels in the Voetbalpodcast. “Then you leave the tournament in a big way.”
Last week the AD watcher was in Spain at the PSV training camp and he saw AZ play against Borussia Dortmund. “I enjoyed the PSV training sessions to see that level. And AZ played very well and that goalkeeper…Owusu-Oduro. He gets the chance now and this is a personality.”
Kylian Mbappé's name is popping up again in the transfer mill. Where does his future lie? Paris, Madrid or Liverpool? “There must be a counterbalance to the Premier League. So Mbappé to Real Madrid, I hope. With Bellingham and Mbappé, Madrid has a chance to win the Champions League.”
