If HIFK, which is short of money, has to be suspended, none of the teams that will continue in the Veikkausliiga will fall out of the league directly.
Football Helsinki IFK, the last host of the Veikkausliiga, threatens to make a really negative history of Finnish football. The club announced on Thursday that the company running the team, HIFK Fotboll Ab, will need 140,000 euros more money during June or the season will be interrupted.
HIFK would be the first club in the history of Veikkausliiga to be left out of the season, says Veikkausliiga’s CEO Timo Marjamaa.
“There have been challenging economic times from time to time, but the season has always been played out,” says Marjamaa.
HIFK Major owner and chairman of the board of Fotboll Ab Heikki Pajunen told STT that the acute need for money for the whole year is half a million euros. An attempt is being made to raise € 140,000 in June by selling tickets for the next four home matches.
The goal is to sell 20,000 tickets, or 5,000 tickets per match. In his next home matches, HIFK will face VPS, Ilves, Haka and Inter.
There are a lot of 5,000 spectators, as so far only the local game against HJK has attracted more than 2,000 spectators. At the end of April, Derby had an audience of 7,103 viewers. In the previous home match against Honka, only 962 spectators were present.
“The situation is really challenging, but not quite caught up in the insane successes. It is not an impossible task, ”says Marjamaa.
The Veikkausliiga cannot provide direct financial support to HIFK in the name of fairness, but the aim is to provide assistance in the form of visibility.
“Hopefully people will get moving to the next games, the community will be activated and the situation will be reversed. It is hoped that people who are somehow touched by the club will have the opportunity to help. ”
HIFK: n The early season in the Veikkausliiga has been difficult, as it has lost six of its nine matches and played three games in a row. The winning account is still unopened.
In the Finnish Cup, the team has advanced to the top eight, and in the week after Midsummer, it will face the Helsinki club PK-35, which is playing below the league in the semi-finals.
If the worst happens and the season is interrupted, all HIFK match results will be reset. At the same time, none of the teams continuing in the Veikkausliiga would fall out directly.
