Football Dean Smith, fired from Aston Villa, will take on coaching responsibilities in Norwich

Dean Smith is the new head coach of Norwich, who plays in the English Premier League.

Finnish striker Teemu Pukin the club he represented said on their website entered into a two-and-a-half-year contract with Smith.

Smith, 50, from England, coached Aston Villa from 2018 but was fired from the Birmingham club the other weekend.

A coaching position was quickly found in Norwich, which fired its German coach the other weekend Daniel Farken.

Smith faces a challenging task in Norwich as the team finishes last in the Premier League. During Farke’s coaching time, Norwich’s grip on the main league level remained poor.

“The last seven days have been a hurricane, but I’m really happy to be back in the Premier League and work in Norwich City,” Smith said in a Norwich press release.

Smith will be coaching his first match in Norwich next Saturday as the team faces Southampton in the Premier League.

“I’ve always worked to improve and develop players, and that, of course, leads to better performance. I was impressed with the structure and vision of this club. ”

For a long time Smith, who has defended his career as a player, has also coached Walsall 2011-2015 and Brentford 2015-2018.

At Aston Villa, he was promoted to the Premier League at the end of the 2019 season, and the following season, the team advanced to the finals in the English League Cup.

“I haven’t had time to talk to him (Smith) yet and I’m not terribly talking to him about the players either. I quickly asked Marcus Forss what kind of manager it was. Marcus praised Smith very much. Of course, we have played against Villa in recent years, but I don’t know Smith better, ”Pukki said at a press conference for the Finnish national team on Monday.

National teammate Forss plays for Brentford, who was previously coached by Smith.

” I can not wait. We start our season as if from the beginning and start fighting for survival, ”Pukki summed up.
