Ilya Kostushevytsh from Mariupol lost his parents in the bombing of his hometown.
Britannian prime minister Boris Johnson received a touching letter from a small Ukrainian football fan as a gift during his surprise visit to Kiev.
6 year old Ilya Kostushevich lost both of his parents in the bombing of Mariupol. Volunteers rescued Kostuševytš, who now lives in Slovjansk with a local family.
Recently, Johnson wrote an open letter to Ukrainian children. Kostushevich decided to respond to Johnson and wrote:
Dear Boris Johnson,
I want the war to end sooner so that no more people die. I want to play football in my hometown of Mariupol. I would like no child in the world to have to go to war. Take greetings from me to all the children in Britain, thank you for helping us. We will win! I have a cat named Frosja. I’ll send you the Ukrainian flag I drew. Hugging tightly,
Illja, 6 years
Kostushevich’s story and the contents of the letter have been published by the Ukrainian football team Shahtar Donetsk, who had been specifically asked by the boy to help deliver the letter.
The request was specifically addressed to the team’s football manager, the Croatian Darijo Srnalle, who played for most of his career in the ranks of Shakhtar. According to the team’s website, Srna also took on an important role.
“After all, a child who has been through so many things cannot be denied a request,” Srna told Shahtar website.
“The family that adopted the boy is a great group. They practically gave the child a new life. I want to thank them very much for this! ”
