The Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) may start producing up to 30 million two-component doses of the new coronavirus drug Convasel. This was announced on March 18 by the press service of the organization.
Such a scale of production will be achieved by the capacity of the new workshop for recombinant drugs, opened in 2021 on the basis of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise SPbNIIVS FMBA of Russia in St. Petersburg.
“The industrial site allows the production of up to 30 million double doses annually,” the report says.
The head of the FMBA, Veronika Skvortsova, noted that Convasel is the world’s first vaccine based on the use of components of the nucleocapsid N-protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and not the surface spike-like S-protein.
“The results of a clinical study showed that Convasel vaccination in humans leads to 100% production of high titers of specific IgG class antibodies to the N protein, specific cellular immunity polarized according to a Th1 profile safe for humans, the formation of specific central memory cells, as well as the development of a pronounced antibody-dependent cytotoxicity, ”the press service of the FMBA quoted Skvortsova as saying.
She added that the vaccine is highly immunogenic and protective.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Ministry of Health registered the Konvasel coronavirus vaccine from FMBA. The published instructions for the drug indicate that it can be used by people aged 18 to 60 years. It is noted that the vaccine is administered twice with an interval of 21 days.
Earlier, on February 2, the head of the FMBA, Veronika Skvortsova, said that the new vaccine is well tolerated and does not cause allergies.
FMBA submitted an application to the Ministry of Health for registration of the Convasel vaccine on January 21.
The Russian authorities urge citizens to get vaccinated in order to protect their health and take care of their loved ones. Russians are vaccinated for free. Six vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, Sputnik Light, Sputnik M, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N and KoviVac.
