First blind doctor, the Council of State decided: “He will not have to repeat the test”

Gaia Padovani, the first completely blind student to graduate in Medicine and admitted to the Postgraduate School in Italy, will not have to repeat the admission test and will therefore be able to continue for the moment the course of study in Psychiatry started two years ago. The decision was made by the Council of State, which today dissolved the reservation on the case and suspended the sentence of the Lazio TAR which had ordered the repetition of the test, provided for by the Ministry of University and Research for November 4, with a minimum notice of about 20 days.

“The Council of State, with a reasoned order,” said the lawyer. Michele Bonetti of the Bonetti & Deli Law Firm “in addition to suspending the sentence of the Lazio TAR, stressed the risk of having to interrupt the profitable course of study of Dr. Padovani, hoping for an overall re-evaluation of the position of the person concerned”.

The lawyer Bonetti adds: “We hope that the trial does not continue in the natural phase of merit already scheduled for the year 2022 and that the institutions take charge of this situation, as wished by the Administrative Justice of the last degree, remedying the position of recurring “.

“The right to education and the right to work have been affirmed, constitutionally guaranteed”, continues the lawyer, “and we cannot fail to underline the abnormality of this limited number of training funnels for young doctors, which is even more unfair in the middle of the pandemic , where available places are left (as deduced by the Council of State) even with serious damage to the state treasury “.
