The severe frost makes extinguishing work difficult.
Frontline house is in open flames in Lieksa in North Karelia and will be completely destroyed, says the rescue service.
The fire site is located in a remote location on Kitsintie about 30 kilometers east of the center of Lieksa. The fire broke out on the upper floor of a two-story building. Two people in the house noticed the fire and made an emergency report after 7:30 in the evening.
“The people were moved out of the burning building by the Lieksa first aid unit that arrived on the scene first and directed to be checked by first aid,” says the fire marshal on duty Sami Meriläinen for HS.
Meriläinen was unable to assess the severity of possible injuries to the persons.
Building will be destroyed in a fire and become uninhabitable.
“The fire had already advanced so far when our first unit reached the target, due to the long distance, that nothing could be done to save the building,” says Meriläinen.
The house was still on fire at half past nine in the evening. According to Meriläinen, the extinguishing works will last well into the night. The situation is not made easier by the fact that it was around 29 degrees below zero in Lieksa on Saturday evening.
“Of course, the severe cold makes extinguishing work more difficult.”
