Around 100 firefighters were called to the scene; this is the 2nd in a Novo Nordisk installation in a week
A large fire hit this Wednesday (May 22, 2024) a building with offices in Bagsvaerd (Denmark). The building belongs to the Danish pharmaceutical group Novo Nordisk, manufacturer of Ozempic (used to treat diabetes and associated with weight loss) and Wegovy, a similar medication used to treat obesity.
The fire started outside and spread to the company’s headquarters. Around 100 firefighters were called to the scene to extinguish the fire. The building was evacuated and there are no injuries, according to information from Reuters.
The head of operations for the Copenhagen fire department also reported that it would take a few hours for the work to be completed.
This episode takes place less than a week after another fire hit a Novo Nordisk building, in the Danish city of Kalundborg, on May 16th. At the time, the company said it did not believe that this would delay plans to increase production of the medicines.
The company is on a broader expansion plan to try to keep up with the growing demand for Ozempic and Wegovy.
