The possible entry of Finland into NATO is a hypothesis that is being worked on. A discussion started but not yet resolved, however inevitable in light of the change of opinion in the majority of the population after the start of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. An unthinkable scenario until last year, it is true that many politicians are still skeptical, but which must be taken into account. This is what the Secretary General for Foreign Affairs Matti Anttonen said in a meeting with the press at the Finnish embassy on the occasion of his visit to Rome today. A visit already planned, he specified, well before the war. There has been talk of the possible entry into NATO, for which a proposal is being considered that will be presented in Parliament in three weeks, and which could soon also affect Sweden.
Reiterated this afternoon, during the meeting with journalists, the neutrality of Finland, however at the forefront to help the populations victims of a war, the result, according to diplomatic sources, not of a decision but of wrong calculations. For Russia, the conflict was a public democratic catastrophe, the diplomatic sources in Helsinki argue, considering that everyone in Europe has been talking about nothing else for a month.
