This Friday, the 24th, Petrobras’ board of directors approved Magda Chambriard as the new executive president and member of the board of advisors.
Chambriard, former director general of the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), took office shortly afterwards, assuming the position left last week by Jean Paul Prates, after President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva decided to change of executive.

With a master’s degree in chemical engineering and civil engineering from UFRJ (1979), with a specialization in oil and gas production, she will be the second woman to hold the position of CEO of Petrobras. Previously, Maria das Graças Foster was president during the administration of Dilma Rousseff.
She will also be the sixth president of the state-owned company in the last three years.
Chambriard received from Lula the mission of accelerating investments in the state-owned company’s command, so that the oil company is the main driver of employment and income in the country.
In the last decade, executive turnover in the Petrobras presidency was high. She will be the tenth president since 2012, a period marked by the Lava Jato operation scandal, which involved the oil company. Most of the executives were removed from their positions after dissatisfaction with the fuel price policy, especially during the administration of Jair Bolsonaro.
Last Tuesday, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, argued that, under the management of the new president, Petrobras should fulfill its investment plan without surprises for investors, but will also have the mission of boosting Brazil’s economy .
According to a relevant fact, it is not necessary to call a shareholders’ meeting to confirm Chambriard as a member of the board of directors.
Magda has a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from COPPE/UFRJ (1989) and a civil engineer from UFRJ (1979), with a specialization in Reservoir Engineering and Training Assessment and a specialization in Oil and Gas Production, at what is now called Petrobras University.
He began his career at Petrobras in 1980, always working in the Production area, where he accumulated knowledge about all areas of production in Brazil.
She became director of the ANP in 2008. In 2012, she became the general director of the agency in the Dilma Rousseff government, having led the creation of the Superintendency of Security and Environment, Superintendence of Information Technology, work related to studies and preparation of contracts and notices, the technical studies that culminated in the first pre-salt tender, in addition to traditional tenders under the concession regime.
