At the end of June the long-awaited expansion of Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail which will be a kind of new beginning after the epic conclusion we had in Endwalker. This time in a more tropical climate with everything and new jobs to experience
Thanks to Square Enix we had the opportunity to play this expansion for a long time, which left us with a very good taste in our mouths and with the desire to explore more of the new continent of Tural and its different regions. Here we share more of our experience.
What you should know about our time with Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail
The stages of Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail are sure to awaken your adventurous spirit
What immediately caught our interest during the gaming experience was precisely the setting of Tural. Its tropical settings combined with great music immediately invited us to explore. Throughout the entire game time we were able to explore three different areas. The first was the town of Tuliyollal, a port city quite similar to Bora Bora where it is known that it will be our central hub for this expansion and where we will do both purchases and equipment upgrades.
We also had a couple of open fields to explore. One of them is Urqopacha which feels very inspired by the Andes and the cultures of the region. In fact here we find curious alpacas and what could easily pass as Machu Picchu’s version of Final Fantasy XIV.
The last region we explored was Kozama’Uka which was one of our favorites. Here we find a forested area full of trees and surrounded by several rivers, lakes and beautiful waterfalls.. In the distance you can see a pyramid-like structure with peaks quite similar to the one that appears in different Dawntrail trailers.
Obviously despite its beauty, the open fields were filled with different creatures that players could face. These also maintain the notorious inspiration in Latin America and its cultures, Well, we find birds similar to quetzals, powerful Chupacabras and even imposing megamagueyes. We wouldn’t be surprised if Latin Final Fantasy XIV users make Dawntrail one of their favorite expansions thanks to its settings and creative monsters.
Viper’s job became one of our favorites
Of course exploring wasn’t the only thing we did in our time with Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail and it was time to try out his two new jobs: Viper and Pictomancer. Viper was our favorite, as we favor physical warriors more. This job is a DPS focused on creating lethal combos with his twin swords that can also be combined into one.
By using your separate swords we can keep our opponents under pressure because our attacks are faster and don’t let them rest. On the other hand, if we join both swords into a large double-edged saber we can make attacks that take a little longer but cause improved damage. By doing three-part combos with Viper, a special bar fills up with which we can enter a more powerful state that adds more variety of attacks to our bar.
The Viper job is not only fun to use, it also has a very interesting and eye-catching design. It is very similar in appearance to a privateer. Even while we played with him, at times he reminded us of good Edward Kenway. Which seems to us to make it an ideal job and more ad hoc with the scenario of Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail.
Pictomancer is another nice addition to Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail that is more complex to use
Now we go with the Pictomancer which is another DPS but mainly attacks from a distance and using magic. In addition, his spells have a painted appearance when casting them. The way to control it is quite similar to that of a magician. However, he also has the ability to summon a hammer to make physical attacks.
When you use Pictomancer, three different canvases appear that we can fill with paintings of monsters, settings and weapons to create powerful combinations. Unlike Viper, which is quite easy to use, Pictomancer seemed more complex to us and might require more time to get the most out of it.
Even so, we found him to be a very interesting character. Especially when it comes to carrying out his attacks because they are quite colorful. But don’t let that fool you, as they can also be quite devastating.
We didn’t try missions but we did try a fairly entertaining dungeon
Although we were not able to participate in main and secondary quests to avoid spoilers, we did have the opportunity to find certain Fates, search for monsters to hunt, and also participate in a dungeon. This took us and three other players on an intense boat trip where we had to eliminate all the enemies that approached us.
After this we faced a group of manatees before continuing our path against creatures seemingly made of different paintings, large lizards and finally the dungeon boss. In general, the experience was quite fun and we took advantage of the time to try our luck with several different jobs and in the company of other colleagues from our gaming session.
If this was just a taste of what awaits us with their dungeons, we already want to see what other surprises they have in store for us for the final game.
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail looks like a very promising expansion
Overall our time playing Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail was quite entertaining although we would have loved the opportunity to participate in more quests. The pleasant and summery music, its colorful settings, the variety of enemies as well as the new jobs of Viper and Pictomancer managed to keep us exploring for hours and of course wanting more for when the full game arrives.
We also forgot to mention that this demo already had the graphics update. Although we were told that it is not yet the final version, it definitely makes both characters and settings look even better.
The fact that our 6-hour or so session kept us hooked the entire time, even without main and side quests, is just proof of how much fun it can be. Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail and the extensive content it could give us when it is finally launched. Fortunately, the wait to set foot on Tural again is not long, as Dawntrail launches on July 2 and you can play from June 28 if you decid
e to pre-order it.
Our recommendation is that you put it on your radar if you haven’t already and that you pick up Final Fantasy XIV if you’ve already abandoned it because this journey to new lands looks both beautiful and promising.
