VG247 contributor Alex Donaldson reported that, according to his sources, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth for Xbox Are Still a Long Way Away: Neither game is reportedly in active development at Square Enix.
“As far as I’m aware, there is no active Xbox version of Final Fantasy VII Remake or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth currently in development,” Donaldson wrote. “Of course they will eventually come to fruition, but what I’m saying is that from what information I have and believe to be reliable, they are not working on it at the moment.”
“You can believe me or not, of course, but I think I’m pretty reliable when it comes to projects related to the Japanese division of PlayStation. So, if I had to guess, I think it’s probably will focus on completing and releasing the third part of the remake and only then will they think about the Xbox versions (and maybe Nintendo Switch 2).”
Square Enix’s Strategy
Naoki Yoshida said that Final Fantasy, Square Enix and Xbox will be closer in the future, but Donaldson said there are already established paths that the Japanese company must respect. “While Square Enix’s strategy on exclusives has softened compared to the past, I expect to see more games coming to Xbox in the futureunless there are valid reasons to the contrary.”
“However, you need to consider these aspects in your production plans, because the conversion of an existing game requires the allocation of separate resources to carry out the necessary work and this would mean take something away from other projects currently under development.”
“We must also understand that a change of strategy like this takes time to be implemented, which means that there will be Square Enix games that have not yet been announced but have been in development for years that will be released everywhere except Xbox because they were created before the latest choices,” the journalist explained.
“The announcement of these titles It doesn’t mean the publisher has already abandoned its new idea of parity with Xboxeven though people will inevitably think so. Unfortunately, the way we learn about things is not linear: we learned about the change in strategy before we discovered the existence of products that were designed for the previous policy.”
“These are things that obviously move continuously, so maybe plans may have changed very recently and I could be wrong. Or Jez could be wrong!. As for Final Fantasy 16, the situation seems clearer and just look at Yoshida’s comments over the last six months: it’s obvious that it’s going to happen, sooner or later.”
