Christopher Dring of GamesIndustry.biz offered his usual preview of last week's sales figures for the UK market, awaiting the full ranking, focusing in particular on sales of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthwhich apparently they are clearly lower than those of Final Fantasy 7 Remake at launchfor what concern physical market.
“In terms of physical copy sales in the UK, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's launch week saw a 30% drop compared to the launch of the previous game,” Dring wrote in a post on X, later adding some possible mitigation for the situation.
“The first game came during the peak of the COVID lockdowns,” Dring explained, which may explain the initial difference in sales, but in truth there are several other aspects to take into consideration as well.
Waiting for digital data
Meanwhile, a much more complete vision will only be available in the next few days: “i digital data they will be made public later in the week”, added the editor of GamesIndustry.biz, and probably only with these will we be able to have a more precise picture.
Remembering that this is only the British market (but the comparison with the first chapter is always made on the same sample), it must be noted that the physical market has shrunk further compared to 2020, when Final Fantasy 7 Remake was launched.
Furthermore, the latter was launched on PS4 when the platform in question had a significantly larger installed base than the current PS5, another element that could provide some additional reference to put the numbers in the right perspective. In any case, we are waiting to see what the data relating to digital will be to have a more complete idea.
In the meantime, we refer you to our review of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to learn more about the game in question.
