FIFA has just ruled on the Byron Castillo case that affected the Chilean and Ecuadorian teams and finally the highest body in world football has ruled in favor of the Ecuadorian team that will maintain its place in the World Cup in Qatar.
Let us remember that from Chile they denounced the improper alignment of the soccer player and provided documents that allegedly showed that Castillo had been born in Colombia and not in Ecuador and therefore the documents presented by the Ecuadorian Federation were a forgery. Since the defender had been lined up in the two games of the South American qualifiers against Chile (the first ended in a draw and the second with an Ecuadorian victory) from La Roja they asked that Ecuador be given both games as lost and therefore they would lose four points while Chile would win 6 and rise to fourth place in the standings, thus achieving a direct place for Qatar.
However, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee considers that the documentation provided by the Chilean Federation’s lawyer is insufficient to exclude the Ecuador team from the World Cup that will begin in the coming months, and they have not validated their claim.
Thus, for now, Ecuador remains one of the teams that will be present in Qatar. We will see if the Chilean Federation decides to appeal the FIFA ruling in the TAS and if so, if they will decide before the World Cup begins or if everything will remain as it is now.
