According to an online patent, EA could put a new name on FIFA, already starting next year, as Konami had already done with PES, become eFootball. The historical name, pillar from the 90s, could change for a completely new version, which seems to have already leaked on the net.
The news of the possible change is not entirely new, as in fact confirmed by the same company a few days ago, however it seems that this decision will be taken already starting from the 2023 version. The new title could in fact be EA Sports FC, a name already known to the various fans of the series as it has been present since 2011.
Electronic Arts indeed had used this name for the live service of FIFA 12, in 2011, resulting in the abandonment of the catalog in last year’s version, with a timing that seems very suspicious. This decision arises precisely from the change of agreements with FIFA, acronym of Fédération Internationale de Football Association, an organization founded in 1904.
Definitely this name change it shouldn’t affect the kind of gameplay we’re used to, especially after the recent huge hits in the first week of release alone. What we will have to get used to will instead be a change in the title, which in all likelihood will become its own EA Sport FC.
At the moment EA has not made any statements regarding the new name of FIFA, even if the declarations of a few days ago had already anticipated this eventuality. The change could therefore take place as early as this year, with the 2023 version with the new name EA Sport FC, as anticipated by the patent that appeared online.
The introduction of a new name it should therefore be the only change we can expect, with the gameplay and game modes that should remain unchanged, which has not exactly happened to the historic rival signed by Konami. Since its release in free-to-play format, eFootball did nothing but receive negative reviews, to which the same company replied in a statement.
