Fico was shot just over a week ago when he was greeting his supporters in Handlova in central Slovakia. After several surgeries, the Prime Minister is still in a serious but stable condition.
The shooter is suspected to be 71 years old Juraj Cintula, who is in custody. He has been charged with attempted murder.
“He repeated that he did not want to kill, but to injure, and therefore aimed at the lower body,” wrote the pre-trial judge, referring to the hearing records.
