Sainz should not have been 'sacrificed'
Carlos Sainz has several admirers and among them is Giancarlo Minardi who in unsuspecting times had told us that he had reported the Spaniard to the Ferrari Driver Academy. Sainz arrived at Maranello in 2021 and from 2022 onwards he has collected a victory in the 2024 season including with 21 races still on the calendar to enrich the haul inaugurated in Melbourne in his second race as an unemployed driver in light of the fact that he participated in Saudi Arabia only in free practice and then raised the white flag due to appendicitis.
Interviewed by Corriere dello Sport Minardi reiterated that Sainz's victory in Melbourne only increases the regrets for a market dynamic which according to the former team manager will not bring great benefits to Ferrari, at least in terms of performance by the drivers: “It is not right that Sainz is not recognized for Leclerc's natural talent because he has innate qualities – Minardi's words – He has nothing to envy of the best and is among the six drivers who can aspire to the world championship with the right car: Verstappen, Leclerc, Sainz, Norris, Piastri and Russell.”.
A list in which it is not there Lewis Hamilton: “All my life I have preferred young drivers. The only thing Hamilton can do is bring some valuable technicians with him.”. An opinion in line with that expressed by Cesare Fiorio.
