The challenge at the top of group C ends without winners. Successes for Sudtirol, Virtus Verona, Catanzaro and Palermo
After Tuesday dedicated to Group B with the extension at the top of Reggiana, the other two groups took to the field on the most intense day of the midweek Serie C round. Here is what happened in the afternoon and in the evening, remembering that the program will be completed tomorrow (Thursday 21 October) with the postponements of group A Pro Vercelli-Giana at 17 and Lecco-Renate at 21.
GROUP A
–
Padova brakes in the spin on the Pro Sesto field (2-2): Pavanel’s team goes under thanks to Gattoni, comeback with Ceravolo and Terrani, wastes safety rigor with Ceravolo himself before being caught up in recovery by Ghezzi . Sudtirol took advantage of this, shortening to minus two from the top and having one game less (Friday the judgment of the FIGC Court of Appeal on the appeal for the race suspended in Legnago): in Bolzano the one-two signed by Rover and Broh to overcome Piacenza (2-0), with Poluzzi collecting the sixth consecutive clean sheet. The primacy is also in the crosshairs of Feralpisalò, who wins in Trento (1-2) hitting the sixth useful result in a row: the host advantage of Guerra responded by Belcastro, then the usual Davide Luppi solved it by entering from the bench.
For Juventus U23, Kaio Jorge’s first goal in Italy (who previously had a penalty saved by the specialist Rossi) is not enough to beat AlbinoLeffe: Gorgonzola ends 2-2, the Brazilian – out of the Champions list and left by Allegri to Zauli for this round – he replies to Manconi, then a mistake by Garofani gives Giorgione the goal before Pecorino’s final Juventus draw. Second victory in three days for Triestina: beat Mantua (2-1) with a goal per time from Gomez and Galazzi, Bertini only shortened in the recovery. Virtus Verona passes to Seregno (1-3), taking advantage of the numerical inferiority of the hosts for the expulsion of Jimenez already arrived at 16 ‘of the first half. Away victory also for Pro Patria in Legnago (2-3): Piu resolved it in the final after two goals on each side in the first half. Victory in comeback for Fiorenzuola over Pergolettese (3-1): the Emilians first go under, then draw and overtake, double by Oneto and Godano to close the accounts in the recovery.
GROUP C
–
In front of the over twenty thousand of San Nicola (and the away match was forbidden to guests), the highly anticipated Bari-Foggia derby ends in a draw (1-1): red and white ahead with Maita who takes advantage of the uncertain exit of Alastra, equal with a great left by Alexis Ferrante – fifth goal from the Argentine – in the second half to reward the good performance of Zeman’s boys at the leaders’ home. The evening smiles at Catanzaro, who is now less than four from the top (on 30 October at the San Nicola the direct clash): Calabro in the meantime hits the fourth success in a row in Latina (0-2) with the penalty of Vazquez and the doubling by Scognamillo. The Giallorossi are isolated in second place, because Turris slips into the house at the hands of Campobasso who faces the playoff area: Campani ahead with Giannone, then overturned by Di Francesco, Liguori and Vitali before Franco’s 2-3. Palermo also joins the group at 16 points, putting behind the slip of Torre del Greco and overcoming Francavilla (1-0, Brunori quick on a wrong back pass by Caporale) in a game made complicated by the expulsion of Perrotta at half an hour.
Monopoli emerges from the crisis of results by overcoming Juve Stabia (1-0): it is the penalty converted by Mercadante that makes Edoardo Imbimbo’s debut as head coach bitter, who took the place of the exonerated Novellino. Second equal in a row for Catania and Avellino, who both needed the three points: at Massimino it ends up 2-2 instead between reversals in front, nervousness and yet another goal (the eighth in nine games) of the top scorer Luca Moro. Taranto returns to party after four rounds, which at Iacovone overturns Fidelis Andria in the other all-Apulian challenge (2-1): all in the second half, Fidelis ahead with Sabatino, then the rigor of Saraniti and the decisive flash of Santarpia. Paganese rises again, condemning Potenza (2-0) to the second knockout in a row: the signings of Murolo after 15 ‘and of Piovaccari in full recovery, but at 1-0 Fabio Gallo’s team hit two poles. The other Lucanian smiles: six points in two games for Picerno, which stops the positive streak of Monterosi (2-0) and overtakes him in the standings: Vivacqua and Pitarresi on a free kick resolve in the second half. They move the ranking without scoring Messina and Vibonese (0-0), in the salvation battle of Franco Scoglio.
