Juarez City.- The Sydney 2000 Olympic diving medalist, Fernando Platas, inspired hundreds of students from the Technological University of Ciudad Juárez (UTCJ), during a talk he offered to the university community within the framework of the 25th anniversary celebrations.
The Silvers conference took place in the gymnasium of the Technological University where dozens of students, as well as teaching and administrative staff, gathered.
The UTCJ highlighted that the diver shared his experience and his life project and left the message that it is possible, as long as the price of success is paid with discipline, effort and a lot of dedication to do the right things.
Fernando Platas, 51, transcended international sport after receiving the National Sports Award in 1995, and for having twice been the Mexican flag bearer of the national delegation during the 2004 Athens Olympic Games and the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, where he won the silver medal on the 3 meter platform.
It should be mentioned that the Technological University of Ciudad Juárez (UTCJ) began its academic, cultural and sports activities this Wednesday, June 12, as part of the celebrations of its 25th anniversary.
The activity began at 8:00 in the morning with the formation of a monumental human logo in which more than 600 students, teaching and administrative staff participated.
The monumental logo was made on the institution’s American football field. There, the rector Carlos Ernesto Ortiz Villegas addressed a message to the university community, and said that UTCJ is celebrating 25 years of training professionals for the community of Ciudad Juárez.
Olympic medalist Fernando Platas was also present at that massive event.
The students were shouting cheers to the university and also released hundreds of green and white balloons as a symbol of celebration, recognition and wish for a long life for the Technological University.
Later, in the acoustic shell of the UTCJ, presentations of local talents, dances and video projections were held to remember and commemorate the achievement and history of the institution.
A popular festival was also held where students were able to taste typical foods of Mexican cuisine. As part of the celebrations, students, teachers and employees of the Technological University participated in the traditional cake cutting event and sang the mañanitas to the institution for its 25th birthday.
The activities will continue until June 26 and for the closing a popular mega-party is planned where the participation of the musical group Sonora Skandalo from Ciudad Juárez and a conference by former basketball player Eduardo Nájera is expected.
