Last year in Italy there were 97 murders of women in incidents of domestic violence and of these 64 were killed by their current or former partners. This is what emerges from the 2023-2024 report published by Amnesty International.
“Strengthened protection measures have been proposed to prevent attacks, also in response to the killing of a young woman by her ex-boyfriend in November, in the province of Pordenone, Friuli-Venezia Giulia,” reads part of the report dedicated to Italy.
“In December, after her visit in June, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe criticized the lack of shelters for women victims of gender violence and the lack of funds for those who provide them services,” she continues. “Parliament has failed to align rape laws with the Istanbul Convention.”
This year, according to the Feminicide Observatory, 25 women have already been killed in Italy. Almost one every four days.
