Censorship that it is “a bargain” to govern with “more taxes and more debt” hours after the unity at the Summit of Presidents
“Full” support for the government, yes, as long as its response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine remains within the framework of the EU and NATO. But a blank check on the management of the war and, especially, its already serious economic consequences, no. Just a few hours after the minimum unit built by the Executive and the communities in the Conference of Presidents of La Palma, Alberto Núñez Feijóo has influenced the criticism launched on the island by himself and the rest of the PP barons about the « insufficiency” of the measures adopted. An inconcretion that the future leader of the popular has reproached in what has to do with the humanitarian reception of Ukrainian refugees in the absence of “a national plan” articulated by Moncloa with the autonomies and, above all, in the announced and For now, diffuse tax cuts to lighten the heavy burden of the energy bill on families and businesses. The still head of the Xunta de Galicia has required Sánchez to adopt initiatives now, in the Council of Ministers tomorrow. And he has cited his demands: a reduction to 4% of the taxation of electricity, reduction of the Hydrocarbons Tax and also the cut “to the minimum” of VAT on the gas bill.
Feijóo has accentuated his position in a meeting with militants of his party in the Balearic Islands, within the tour that he is leading through the different territories before being elected new president of the PP in the extraordinary congress in Seville on April 1 and 2. “A Galician comes in handy, listen to me”, he joked before the popular affiliates, in an act in which he broke down his management model -the model of the Xunta- with the aim of extending it to the whole of Spain . A model that goes through a staunch defense of the State of Autonomies -he has stressed that the founder, Manuel Fraga, José María Aznar and himself have headed regional governments- and for claiming the condition of the PP as a State party. In this sense, he has boasted of constituting a better support for the Government of Sánchez than his partners from United We Can, Esquerra and EH Bildu, whom Sánchez has chosen “to misgovern the country.” “We are not here to undermine the State” , has settled, before committing its endorsement to the Executive if it remains aligned with the reaction of the European Union and the Atlantic Alliance. And without this meaning giving up criticism of “the most mediocre government in 40 years of democracy” in a very critical context, in addition, due to the armed conflict.
Feijóo believes that the Conference of Presidents should have agreed on explicit measures both in assistance to refugees – for whom health and schooling must be guaranteed, he noted – and on the accelerated rise in energy costs. At least, he has abounded, to prevent the Government from increasing its collection at the expense of taxes on electricity and fuels. «More taxes and more debt, it is a bargain to govern like this. They are capable of doing it until the PSOE and United We Can », he has finished off with acidity. The Galician leader has called it a “new fallacy” that Sánchez attributed all inflation in Congress to Putin’s invasion, when Spain had previously dragged negative figures in Europe both in prices and in debt and the public deficit. A disapproval that has rounded off a speech in which he has underlined the “great moment of the party” that the Seville congress will mean to “unite” the PP; open it to those who have stopped voting for it, but also to those who no longer vote for the “sanchista party” within socialism; and “concrete a project” that allows the popular to recover the Moncloa on a clear and coherent hegemony and not on which the Sánchez Executive is based, in his critical opinion. “I do not intend to govern by adding all those who lose, but rather I come to win with large majorities,” he concluded.
