Feijóo insists that Sánchez should have taken command on DANA day and accuses him of not having “humanity”

Alberto Núñez Feijóo has ignored the gauntlet that the President of the Government had thrown at him in his appearance to postpone the political battle for DANA for a few weeks. Although Pedro Sánchez had focused on defending the role of his Executive and had barely made any vague reproaches to the president of the Generalitat during his appearance, (“the system did not fail, some people failed,” he said), he has heard from his seat how The opposition leader has had no qualms about attacking him with his partner, accusing him of a lack of humanity and even attributing to him the possible commission of some crimes.

“What a lack of humanity and what a lack of humility,” Feijóo snapped, referring directly to the Penal Code. “Is prevarication by omission a crime? Is omission another crime? Why didn’t you declare the alarm? Because he didn’t want to or because they didn’t let him? They should have declared the emergency and they know it because it affected several communities. Or were the seven deaths in Castilla-La Mancha the responsibility of the Valencian president? “Or do you not care about these presidents?” asked Feijóo, who in no case made any reference to the hours in which his colleague, the Valencian president Carlos Mazón, was unreachable for a working lunch during the most critical hours of the tragedy.

In his turn to speak, the opposition leader began by apologizing “to those who believe that politics has not lived up to the circumstances or the people” but he did not hesitate to clash with the president of the Government throughout its intervention. “They seem to have done everything for the victims but until then they only made political calculations. This time he miscalculated. People are not going to forgive him for not exercising his powers, for his abandonment. “You should no longer be here,” he began to shoot.

Alberto Núñez Feijóo has gone so far as to discredit the president for traveling to India “with an accused woman,” in reference to the Prime Minister’s partner. “They even paid for advertising on networks to discredit the regional government while they were searching for the dead. Ladies and gentlemen, this is of regrettable moral character. You should have been the Government of Spain and you decided to be the opposition to the Catalan Generalitat, to the Generalitat of Valencia,” he denounced.

Feijóo has insisted on his main political argument of opposition to the Executive since the day of the tragedy, that Sánchez should have removed Mazón from his powers. “You should have declared a national emergency,” he repeated.

The leader of the PP has not missed the opportunity to introduce in his turn to speak matters that have no relation with the management of the DANA to attack the president, whom he has accused of “hiding from the corruption cases that carry his name”.

“He has used the resources of the Spanish people to whom they are owed. And what they have to do is apologize, return what they took and leave. Do not hide behind this tragedy on the scale of despicable acts that you have been capable of doing these years. This already occupies one of the first positions, but out of respect for the victims, we are going to continue with this debate,” said Feijóo, who however continued with references to the Government’s judicial fronts.

“I am aware that his judicial and legislative agony takes up all his time. Don’t try to hide it. You can see it in your faces. No government focused on protecting itself in court can protect citizens in need. All efforts should be focused on reconstruction and preventing similar events from being repeated. And you have no room for this. You no longer govern. Leave it already. Leave it already. The Spanish deserve an alternative that is only at their service. And they will have it without having to ask for it,” he concluded.
