Formula E has yet to conclude a compelling Season 10, but behind the scenes it is already working on the future, both the immediate and the long-term. Starting next season, in fact, the Gen 3 Evo will make its debut, the new electric single-seater which will represent an evolution of the current Gen 3 on track from the beginning of 2023.
The championship is ready to raise the bar further and there are many elements that will represent something new for a generation of single-seaters which, in reality, still has a lot to give in terms of pure potential.
Today, Formula E officially confirmed that the Gen 3 Evo will be officially presented at the Monaco ePrix which will be held at the end of April, as was the case for the Gen 3 about two years ago. The track debut is scheduled for the 2025 season, before being used again in 2026. Behind the scenes, clearly, the FIA and Formula E have already carried out numerous tests to ensure that the package is reliable.

On an aesthetic level, the car should not be revolutionized, maintaining common characteristics with the current generation, as already happened in the past with the evolutions of Gen 1 and Gen 2. The most important and visible changes at first glance will concern the front part of the machine, also for safety reasons, but there will also be innovations in other areas of bodywork.
A lot of work, however, has been done on a technical level. Last year Formula E worked on a concept car, the Gen 3 BETA, an experimental car without the limitations of current cars imposed by the FIA. The Gen 3 BETA, for example, could operate the electric motor-generator not only for the charging phase, but also for traction, with a clear improvement in performance.
This innovation, which is now limited only at a regulatory level, should be introduced on the new generation which will be presented in Monaco in two weeks: it is difficult to establish the total improvement in terms of performance, given that its effectiveness will depend from circuit to circuit depending on of the layout and the characteristics of the asphalt, but we are talking about a leap forward of around two seconds.
Furthermore, next year a new specification of Hankook tires will debut, which will guarantee greater grip to respond to the criticisms of the drivers of the last two years, who have often underlined how the tires were too hard, limiting the possibilities of the single-seater. It is important to underline that manufacturers will also be able to homologate a new Powertrain, so the improvements will not only take place on a software level, but also on a hardware level.

Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, underlined how this step forward with the Gen 3 Evo represents all the championship's efforts to offer a more complete product on a technological level, but also keeping in mind the entertainment factor. The current single-seaters could in fact already be much faster just by making a few changes at the software level, but the intention of the championship is also to focus on the theme of efficiency by producing races that are sometimes unpredictable.
“As we prepare to unveil the GEN3 Evo, we're not just unveiling a car, because we're continuing to shape the future of racing,” Dodds explained.
This new iteration not only exemplifies our dedication to innovation and pushing the limits of technology, but also reinforces our commitment to providing our fans with exhilarating, competitive racing. We are defining new ones that will intensify on-track rivalries and fan engagement, keeping us at the forefront of global motorsports.”
