The long-awaited confirmation comes only a few weeks after the announcement, which took place before the Tokyo E-Prix, of the return of Lola Cars to the world of motorsport after more than ten years of absence, while Yamaha will once again try its hand at racing on four wheels for the first time since 1997.
Ahead of this weekend's Misano E-Prix, Abt has confirmed that its cars will feature the new powertrain when its current partnership with Mahindra ends at the end of this season.
“We are delighted to have found two renowned partners for our future in Formula E,” said Thomas Biermaier, CEO and team principal of ABT. “Naturally, it will be a great challenge for a new manufacturer to enter and establish itself in a world championship.”
“But during discussions and negotiations over the last few months, we have clearly felt how competent, motivated and determined Lola and Yamaha are to make this project a success, just like every member of our team.”
Abt has achieved many successes in the full electric championship since its inception in 2014, winning the drivers' title with Lucas di Grassi in 2016-17 and the teams' title the following season, all in collaboration with Audi.
Following the German manufacturer's withdrawal from the championship in 2021, Abt also withdrew from the category before returning ahead of the 2023 season, in collaboration with Cupra.

Since rejoining Mahindra, the team has struggled to find success and, at the season-opening Mexico City E-Prix, announced it would end its collaboration with the Indian manufacturer.
The new Lola/Yamaha powerplant is currently undergoing testing and is expected to hit the track as early as June, before being used with the new Gen 3.5 machines starting next season.
“We are thrilled to partner with ABT to bring technology developed with Yamaha Motor Company to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship,” said Till Bechtolsheimer, president of Lola Cars. “It is exciting to work with a team that has such strong history and success in this category.”
“Managing manufacturer-backed programs is ABT's bread and butter and their experience in Formula E will give us a key advantage. We look forward to developing our relationship within and beyond the series.”
