Fallout is experiencing an impressive comeback with the success of the TV series which made the franchise reach a popularity perhaps never achieved before, and the ideal would have been to be able to count on a new video game from the series to be launched, according to the standard rules of the market: Fallout 5 but it's still a long way off, and Microsoft would like to try to speed up the process and have it arrive sooner than expected, according to a well-known leaker/journalist.
The matter is not at all simple, of course, but second Jez CordenWindows Central journalist who has always been very close to issues concerning Xbox, Microsoft would be “formulating plans on how to ensure that the next Fallout can arrive sooner than expected”, as reported in the recent episode of the Xbox Two podcast.
The company would “well realize” that the application for a new Fallout is very high, and would intend to act accordingly.
How this translates into practice is a whole other story, though: Bethesda Softworks is still committed to support for Starfield, while the majority of the workforce is now all poured into The Elder Scrolls 6which will take precedence over Fallout 5, which would be the next project to be completed.
Meanwhile there are Fallout 4 and 76
Considering the studio's standard timelines, it means that the new Fallout could hardly hit the market before 2030a very distant period of time to be able to exploit any temporary hype.
It is to be imagined that the possible Season 2 of Fallout could repeat the success of the first, which would give further margin of time to prepare the trail for a new chapter of the series, but the development should be organized in a different way.
Here the wildest theories come into play, which obviously involve Obsidian: the team, also part of Xbox Game Studios, is the author of Fallout: New Vegas, which in the long term proved to be one of the most popular chapters of the series, so the idea could be to entrust a new Fallout to the studio in question .
It could be a spin-off or something like that, considering that Bethesda seems to be quite jealous of its intellectual property, but the question is still very doubtful because Obsidian is also already very busy on several projects, between Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, so for the moment the whole question seems above all to be a great speculation, although it is true that the hype for the Fallout TV series represents a heritage not to be wasted, also seeing how it has dragged the old chapters of the series back into the sales charts.
In the meantime, Fallout 4 has received its next gen update and probably, together with Fallout 76, will be able to absorb the public's desire for the series at least for a while.
