The new Board of Directors of the Emirates Journalists Association held its first meeting at its headquarters in Dubai today, during which Fadila Al-Muaini was elected president of the association unanimously, making her the first woman to head the association since its founding in 2000.
Mohammed Saeed Al Tunaiji was also elected as Vice President, Khaled Al Ghailani as Secretary, and Hassan Omran Al Shamsi as Treasurer, in addition to distributing the tasks of the association’s committees to the members.
The association’s Board of Directors meeting, which was elected last Thursday and whose term will last for three years, was attended by: Halima Al-Mulla, Ali Shahdour, Reem Al-Buraiki, Dr. Fatima Al-Ward Al-Darmaki, and Muhammad Junaid Al-Amiri.
The new council discussed the association’s work plans and strategies during the next phase, which requires concerted and combined efforts in the media community in general and the journalistic community in particular, at a time when the media of all stripes are playing an important role in the development of societies based on making the most of the technology for exchanging and transmitting information, in addition to Reviewing a number of ideas, programs and proposals that were presented during the General Assembly meeting.
Her Excellency Al-Muaini and the members of the new Board of Directors extended their thanks and appreciation to the previous Board of Directors, led by Mohammed Al-Hammadi, for its efforts during its past three years for the effort and hard work it provided during the last session. She also thanked the members of the General Assembly for their participation, interaction, and remarkable attendance in support of their fellow candidates in the Assembly elections. Emirati journalists, during an evening filled with friendliness and a wonderful electoral atmosphere, expressed the great awareness of journalists who are people of speech and opinion.
The President of the Emirates Journalists Association confirmed that the new council will continue to work to serve the press and journalists in the Emirates, and achieve what colleagues aspire to in terms of a beneficial and effective role for the association.
She called on the members of the association to enhance their participation and support for the association’s activities and events, and to contribute their opinions and suggestions to work together to advance the profession of journalism and media.
