It has been a month since the deadly attack at the University of Prague, which claimed the lives of 13 people. On Sunday, the philosophy faculty opened its doors for a day to process what had happened with art activities.
ZTo commemorate the fatal gun attack a month ago, the Faculty of Arts at Charles University in Prague reopened its doors for a day. Dean Eva Leheckova spoke on Sunday of an important step for all students and faculty members to come to terms with what happened.
Shortly before Christmas, on December 21st, a 24-year-old university student shot 13 people in a university building in Prague's Old Town and then killed himself. One injured person later died in hospital. 24 people were injured in the attack.
According to police reports, the gunman had already randomly killed a man and his two-month-old daughter in a Prague suburb on December 15th. Shortly before the attack at Charles University, he also killed his father in the house they shared. To date, nothing is known about the 24-year-old's motives.
According to Leheckova's deputy Martin Pehal, lectures, a book exchange and art events were planned for Sunday. Among other things, participants in a workshop were able to create a memorial using the wax from candles that mourners left behind after the gun attack at the university. Meanwhile, black curtains blocked access to the upper floors.
According to Dean Leheckova, lectures are scheduled to resume on February 19th. The psychologists also advised a quick return. The fourth floor, the main location of the rampage, will remain closed for the time being.
