It opened with no little confusion on Sunday in Jeddah, on the eve of what will be the first – historic – GP of Saudi Arabia. The departure of the Feature Race of the penultimate round of Formula 2 – the event that precedes the ‘big’ race – was in fact postponed to 16:03 Italian, ie half an hour after the scheduled time, for allow for repairs to the barriers of protection of the Jeddah circuit. Close to the starting grid, in fact, the marshals set to work to replace some safety blocks placed on the track. However, this has created considerable confusion regarding the actual start time of the race.
Race Direction, in fact, communicated the official ok for the session to take place only at 3:45 pm Italian time, when the cars were leaving the paddock to reach the pit lane. However, after a few moments, the Race Direction itself published a message of “Session aborted”, generating further chaos in all the insiders on the possible cancellation of the event. This same message was disproved moments after it was posted, with the cars being let onto the track regularly and then lining up on the grid.

Previously, almost as a ‘symbol’ of the confusion that was being generated on the track, the cars had traveled the main straight in the wrong direction to be able to return to the pits after the race had been delayed. In this way, the weekend for Formula 2 in Saudi Arabia ends in the worst possible way from an organizational point of view. Already on Friday, in fact, some operational problems had postponed the start of free practice by a good 55 minutes.
