After the Haas, the Hitech GP team also announced the immediate termination with the Russian sponsor Uralkali. The company of Dmitry Mazepin, Nikita’s father, had already been a permanent presence on the cars of the English team for several years and the same company had now become the majority shareholder of the team.
Last week, before the start of pre-season testing in Bahrain, Oliver Oakes bought back the team’s stake from Uralkali and both Formula 2 and Formula 3 cars took to the track without the Russian company logos.
Today Hitech issued a statement in which it confirmed the termination of the sponsorship relationship with Uralkali.
“Hitech Grand Prix Limited has decided to terminate the sponsorship agreement with Uralkali with immediate effect. Like the rest of the motorsport community, the team is shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine and hopes for a quick and peaceful end to the ongoing conflict ”.

The Hitech GP was the team that welcomed a very young Nikita Mazepin in the preparatory categories. The Russian, in fact, made his debut with the English team in 2016 in the European Formula 3 championship and then continued the relationship also the following year. In both seasons one and two Mazepin’s league results were not thrilling, with Nikita finishing twentieth in the standings in 2016 and tenth in 2017.
After an interlude with the ART Grand Prix in GP3 and Formula 2 in 2018 and 2019, Mazepin rejoined Hitech GP in 2020 for the team’s debut season in Formula 2 and on this occasion he was the author of a season positive closed in fifth position seasoned, however, by a few episodes at the limit of too many.
Hitech GP will field confirmed Juri Vips and veteran Marcus Armstrong in Formula 2 this year, while in Formula 3 the English team will bring Kaylen Frederick, Nazim Azman and the great promise Isack Hadjar to the track.
