Enzo Fittipaldi will be able to spend the Christmas holidays with his family. The Brazilian driver was discharged from the King Fahad Armed Forces hospital in Jeddah where he was helicopter transported last Sunday following the violent accident at the start of the Formula 2 Feature Race.
Fittipaldi, when the traffic lights went out, did not notice Théo Pourchaire’s car parked on the grid and crashed into the rear of ART Grand Prix number 10 at full speed, demolishing the front of his Charouz.
The race direction immediately interrupted the Feature Race with a red flag to allow medical personnel to rescue the two pilots who were subsequently transported to the hospital.
Pourchaire suffered only a few contusions, while Fittipaldi, who sustained a 72g deceleration in the impact, suffered a fracture in his right heel and an injury to the right eyebrow arch.
It was Fittipaldi himself who provided updates on his health via his Twitter profile and yesterday shared his arrival at home in North Carolina with his followers.
“I arrived home safe and sound today. I would like to use this moment to thank everyone who has helped me over the past few days. I cannot put into words how kind and loving everyone at King Fahd Hospital has been. Thank you Saudi Arabia.”
To give more information in recent days on the state of health of the young Brazilian was Emerson Fittipaldi. The two-time world champion, interviewed exclusively by Motorsport.com, said that his nephew’s crash reminded him of the unfortunate protagonist Riccardo Paletti in 1982, but thanked the Federation for the enormous progress made in terms of safety.
“I think we have to thank the FIA for the work done to make the cars safer over the years. Thank God he only injured his right foot even though the impact was very violent. All in all it is fine and this is due to the monocoque which is currently really robust “.
