F1 Singapore, Verstappen-show with engines off
He may not have put on a show during the race, and perhaps he didn’t even have fun against a Lando Norris who was so dominant and without even a position to defend. But with the engines off Max Verstappen he is giving his best: in the official press conference he answers in monosyllables or little more, as soon as he leaves the “official” FIA rooms he lets loose and inveighs against the Federation, which sentenced him to community service for inappropriate language at the beginning of the weekend.
The reigning world champion does not accept the punishment and threatens to abandon a Formula 1 that he no longer recognises, a plan he has never hidden even when he was winning every Sunday.
Verstappen’s words
“If you can’t be yourself anymore, it’s better not to say anything. Nobody wants that, right? You become a robot, that’s not how it should be in this sport.”, he complained in front of journalists. “I don’t know how seriously the FIA takes my opinion, but for me, enough is enough. Racing will continue and F1 will continue without me“.
“On the other hand, this speech is also valid for me: quitting is not a problem. I will always remain myself and I will not change. These things definitely decide my future too. You can’t be yourself, otherwise you have to deal with this kind of nonsense. I think now, in my career phase, you don’t want to deal with this stuff all the time, it’s really tiring: of course, it’s nice to be successful and win races, but once you’ve achieved all this, winning championships and races, you also want to have fun.“.
