When the Highway Police heard the roar of this Iveco Turbostar must have wondered if under the guise of that heavy vehicle there was a Formula 1 single-seater or a supercar. When the officers then decided to stop the truck there were no more doubts: The modifications made were significant and made the truck a true road monster, with a V12 engine and four turbochargers for a top speed of over 150 km/h.
The Formula 1 truck
The Highway Police intercepted the heavy vehicle near the A1 motorway toll booth in Ferentino. Once stopped, the officers first saw a double-ended exhaust and then some components that did not appear to be the original ones. The vehicle was seized and taken to Iveco to analyze the possible modifications. The checks highlighted the replacement of engine, gearbox and braking system, with a propulsion unit probably coming from an industrial generator set.
Up to 1,500 HP
The vehicle’s chassis has been modified to accommodate the new unit, with the vehicle able to develop on the test bench 1,500 HP and a speed of 130 km/h even if the maximum speed could be much higher since it was not possible on the test bench, for safety reasons. Push further.
Penalties for the truck owner
The Highway Police thus contested several infringements against the driver of the Turbostarwith fines totalling 4,300 euros. The officers proceeded to withdraw the vehicle registration document, forcing the owner to subject the truck to extraordinary review at the Frosinone motor vehicle office, in addition to the suspension of the driving license for 3 months and the deduction of 23 points from the license.
