Verstappen-Fia controversy
There controversy between Max Verstappen and the Federation International on the story of the swear words uttered by the world champion during the Singapore GP weekend is set to continue. The Dutchman, who was sentenced to carry out hours of work in the public interest, staged a rather dramatic protest after the sanction, answering in monosyllables to all the interviews conducted inside the room of the official FIA press conference. But while the Formula 1 drivers’ union, the GPDA, lends its support to the demands of the reigning world champion through the words of the association’s president Alex Wurz, Max’s protest doesn’t fully convince Nico Rosberg.
Swearing in F1, Rosberg’s opinion
The F1 world champion, present at Marina Bay as a commentator in the post-race for Sky Germanyhas in fact expressed concern about the psychological energy that Max is spending in the battle against the Federation. An evidently very competent opinion, considering how the perfect management of mental resources was fundamental to beat Hamilton in 2016: “Of course it’s a funny scene. On one hand, my daughters are watching TV and I think it’s good to pay attention to language, but on the other hand these kids are gladiators! We want them to show their emotions, so it would be better if they put beeps and censored the swear words. As for Max… If I was fighting for the title, I don’t know if I would put all this energy into it. It’s a nice distraction for him.”.
F1, Verstappen’s title chances
Rosberg then also spoke about Verstappen’s title chances, now that Lando Norris and McLaren seem to have changed gear by dominating the Singapore GP: “I’m not convinced that Red Bull can still win races this yeargiven how far they are at the moment. They gave their best this weekend and Max’s qualifying lap was great. He managed to take the rope in all the corners perfectly, and this allowed him to be second on the grid. Now he can also afford to always finish second to get the title. But that’s a speech that can’t really be made, because Oscar Piastri is also on the track and maybe even Ferrari. I see Mercedes a little further away, but It’s still very difficult for Verstappen. I don’t see why Norris can’t win all the remaining races”.
