Singapore GP bittersweet for Ferrari
After the frustration of post-qualification, the dominant feeling at home Ferrari at the end of the Singapore GP it can only be the regret for the wasted opportunity. The beautiful comeback of Charles Leclerc and partly also of Carlos Sainz rests, in fact, on the excellent race pace of an SF-24 that could perhaps have fought with the Red Bull of Max Verstappen and the McLaren of Oscar Piastri for the podium, if not with the dominant Lando Norris for the victory, if only Q3 had gone a little better. It is inevitable, therefore, to think back with a hint of disappointment to the result of Saturday, which saw both Prancing Horse drivers qualify on the fifth row and without a timed lap to their name.
Leclerc takes responsibility for Q3
Not by chance, Leclerc himself spoke to the microphones Sky after the race he wanted to comment on the qualifying rather than the race, with a partial backtracking on the complaints he made yesterday about the temperature of the tyres which would have pushed him to make a mistake in turn 1 and to activate the track limit trap: “First of all I would like to go back to yesterday’s Q3, for clarify that I am to blame for the negative result. Maybe my statements were not clear and I did not want the wrong message to be conveyed. Today I clearly paid for the bad qualifying, we had to recover but I think we did a great job”.
Ferrari’s strategy in Marina Bay
“The first part of the race – Leclerc continued after the checkered flag – It was frustrating, because I lost a lot of time behind Nico and Fernando (Hulkenberg and Alonso, ed.), but then it was a really nice race. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for fourth place, but almost. The choice to delay the first pit stop? We talked about it a lot with the team, we could have brought forward the pit stop but it is always difficult. Instead, it made more sense to do two different things with the two cars, because a Safety Car or a red flag would have been perfect for our race. In any case, we also knew that continuing by delaying the pit stop would not have been a disaster. I have no regrets about this race.”.
