Second and final day of Pirelli testing for Ferrari at Mugello. The Cavallino team today deployed Carlos Sainz on the SF-24 destined for the development of the 2025 tires of the Milanese single supplier. The Spaniard completed the program planned by the Bicocca technicians by putting together 135 laps, equal to 707 km, which is more than two GPs.
The Madrilenian has regained confidence with the Tuscan track where a GP has not been held since 2020, collaborating in the definition of compounds and constructions more suitable to limit the phenomenon of overheating on the tires which F1 will adopt next year in compliance with a regulation which is not destined to change.
“First of all, I want to thank Scuderia Ferrari HP once again for their collaboration in this test – commented Mario Isola, Director of Pirelli Motorsport –. We are in a very intense phase of the season and having supported us again with the presence of the two starting drivers represents an important commitment. For us they were a very profitable two days on a beautiful track like Mugello, a very testing test bed for the tyres, given its configuration full of fast and long corners: the ideal scenario for experimenting with harder compound solutions” .
“The data collected in these 1,337 kilometers traveled here are very interesting and will allow us to begin to narrow down the field of the most effective solutions, so that we can finalize the choices over the next few months. Now our test program will return to exploiting the “opportunity to ride on the tracks used in the Grand Prix in the days following the events: in fact we will test at Silverstone immediately after the British Grand Prix and then at Spa after the Belgian Grand Prix”
The two days of testing on the Scarperia track were very useful for Pirelli, but they were also good for the Scuderia after the disappointing Canadian trip which ended with a double retirement and zero points for the championship rankings.
Mugello, in fact, has similar characteristics to those that Ferrari will encounter in Barcelona: in addition to a long straight, the Cavallino circuit offers all the types of corners that we will also see at Montmelò (long and very fast bends such as the Arrabbiate associated to guided variations). The two days on the outskirts of Florence may have been perfect to restore some enthusiasm to a team that suffered a “cold shower” on the island of Notre Dame, after Charles Leclerc’s victory in Monte Carlo.

Sainz found the sky slightly overcast in the morning, while then a warm sun emerged, while Leclerc yesterday also had to deal with some downpours of water which also allowed him to work on the intermediate wet tyres.
There was also an F1-75 on the track today which was entrusted to Oliver Bearman. The young Englishman, in addition to being kept in training to contribute to the development of the SF-24 on the simulator, can count on the support of Ferrari in view of the next FP1 appointment with Haas which is scheduled for next week in the Spanish GP.
Ollie has six Friday sessions scheduled with the American team in view of his move to regular driver in 2025: he has already lapped at Imola with the VF-24 and, as well as in Catalunya, he will also be active at Silverstone, Hungaroring, Mexico City and Abu Dhabi.
