Charles Leclerc began the second day of Pirelli testing on the Barcelona track: the Monegasque is at the wheel of the SF-23 and will drive last year's car until the lunch break, when the red 2023 will pass into the hands of Carlos Sainz who, instead , began the morning on the SF-75.
The 2022 car was yesterday entrusted to Arthur Leclerc, the little brother who had his first contact with an F1, since he was appointed development driver for the 2024 season together with Oliver Bearman.
The Monegasque has made himself available to the Milanese company's technicians who are developing compounds and new constructions for the 2025 tyres. The aim is to find useful solutions to reduce tire overheating for what will be the last year of the current regulation.
As we are writing, Leclerc managed to lap in 1'15”068, a time that is already half a second faster than that achieved yesterday by Sainz, a sign that the direction chosen by the Bicocca engineers is going in the right direction, although the weather conditions are not optimal with 11 degrees of air and only 12 degrees of asphalt.
Carlos, however, continues the training phase with the older SF-75 and did not go beyond 1'16″622: the Spaniard has demo tires and this morning does not participate in the tire shop's work, but dedicates himself to trying the feeling again with an F1.
On 13 February, on the occasion of the launch of the SF-24, the two starting drivers will be able to test the new single-seater in Fiorano (15 km allowed), while the following day, still on their home track, they will be able to share the car on the filming day: the FIA has doubled the mileage with 200 km of travel, so Leclerc and Sainz will have the opportunity to make an initial evaluation of the new Cavallino weapon which will not be shown to the press in person, but only via the web.
Ferrari has chosen a low profile so as not to overinflate the expectations of a car that will certainly be more competitive than the SF-23, but is unlikely to close the gap on Red Bull.
