Ferrari returned to Mugello, even if the Cavallino track fell off the radar of the Formula 1 world championship. The Tuscan track owned by the Maranello brand was chosen by Pirelli for the development of the 2025 tyres, following the agreed plan from the sole Milanese supplier with the FIA.
It was the fifth development test after Barcelona, Jerez de la Frontera, Suzuka and Le Castellet. Charles Leclerc was on the track on Thursday with the SF-24: after the retirement suffered on Sunday in the Canadian GP following an engine misfiring problem, the Monegasque is back in action to follow the evolution of the tires for next year . Charles has carried out comparative tests between different compounds and constructions with a view to 2025.
Given the nature of this particular track, particular attention was paid to the harder compounds in the range planned for next season, with the main strategic objective of reducing overheating. It rained in the afternoon, which made intermediate tires necessary, thus continuing the work started on the Paul Ricard circuit. At the end of the day Leclerc had completed 120 laps, equal to 630 kilometres.
Tomorrow it will be the turn of Carlos Sainz who will complete the two days in Tuscany: the Scarperia circuit was chosen for the variety of its design which offers a long straight and combines very fast corners with low traffic chicanes, offering a very useful towards the definition of new coverages.
