Formula 1 will soon move across the Atlantic Ocean to contest its final series of races on American soil in 2024, the Grands Prix in Mexico City, Austin and Sao Paulo.
This morning Pirelli revealed the compounds it will make available to the teams and drivers in the three American races, starting with the first of the New World events, the United States Grand Prix.
In Texas, home of the Grand Prix that will be held from 18 to 20 October, the Formula 1 drivers will have the following compounds at their disposal:
- Pirelli PZero White Hard C2
- Pirelli PZero Yellow Medium C3
- Pirelli PZero Red Soft C4
This is a choice aimed at the softest part of the 2024 range made by Pirelli, while excluding the softest compound overall, the C5.
For the second of the three events in America, the Mexico City Grand Prix scheduled for the end of October (from the 25th to the 27th of the month), Pirelli will provide the following compounds:
- Pirelli PZero White Hard C3
- Pirelli PZero Yellow Medium C4
- Pirelli PZero Red Soft C5
On this occasion the riders will really have the three softest compounds for the Hermanos Pedro y Ricardo Rodriguez track.
For the last of the three events on American soil, the Sao Paulo Brazilian Grand Prix, Pirelli has decided to bring the same compounds that it will bring to Austin, at the Circuit of the Americas:
- Pirelli PZero White Hard C2
- Pirelli PZero Yellow Medium C3
- Pirelli PZero Red Soft C4
Again, this is a choice that leans towards the softer end of the range, but while the one for Austin and Mexico City is exactly the same as last year, for Sao Paulo a choice was made that is one degree softer, as the Hard was never used last year.
In this way, Pirelli will try to increase the uncertainty on strategies by trying to include the harder compound in the rotation, thus becoming an option for those who will try to shuffle the cards in the race on Sunday.
Furthermore, it should be noted that work is underway on the Brazilian circuit to resurface the asphalt, with all the unknowns that this entails: Friday will be more important than ever to check the behaviour of the tyres and it will be necessary to keep in mind that the grip conditions will change very quickly throughout the weekend.
