There is exactly a week left until the official presentation of Ferrari's 2024 single-seater, but behind the scenes it is a particularly intense period for the Formula 1 teams, who are completing the preparation phase in view of the tests in Bahrain scheduled for shortly after mid-February.
A particular period, in which the first ignition of the new single-seaters which will then go on to compete in the championship also takes place. The first start-up of an engine is always a special and iconic moment for a team, the culmination of months of work in the respective departments in which hopes and ambitions are placed. Furthermore, it also represents a first fundamental test, useful for ensuring that all the various systems, such as the electrical and hydraulic ones, are functioning correctly before the tests in Sakhir.
As anticipated by Motorsport.com, the first ignition of the SF-24 Power Unit in the Gestion Sportiva plant took place in recent days. A week after the presentation, the Scuderia released the video of the car's start-up, with the song of the V6 resonating in the Emilian city.
Attending was Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur with the other members of the team. At the end of the first start-up, as per tradition, the team members present in the department applauded. Silence then returned to the department in view of further tests on the benches, with the Scuderia returning to work on the single-seater which will be officially presented on Tuesday 13 February in Maranello before a brief shakedown.
After 2023 ended with just one victory, Cavallino's hope in view of the season that is about to begin is to make a change and immediately confirm itself as more competitive, fighting more often for stage success. Driving the two SF-24s, which should represent a change of direction compared to the past in terms of concept, will once again be Charles Leclerc, who recently renewed his contract for the Red team also for the next few years, and Carlos Sainz, in his last season at Ferrari. Starting next year, in fact, the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton will land in Maranello, replacing the Spaniard by forming a dream team with the Monegasque.
