The engines at Ferrari are anything but off. Even though it is not a race weekend, the Maranello team is very active behind the scenes, both in preparing for the next Grand Prix in Australia and in giving its reserves the opportunity to run with a certain continuity on the track.
After the private tests completed in Barcelona last February, the Cavallino team has in fact decided to continue its test program with the reserve drivers also in Fiorano. Yesterday it was Oliver Bearman's turn who, after his splendid debut in Formula 1 in Saudi Arabia, returned to the wheel of the Ferrari F1-75, the 2022 single-seater and first single-seater of the current technical cycle of ground-effect cars.
While the Englishman was lapping on the track, inside the Gestion Sportiva of Maranello, Antonio Giovinazzi instead sat in the simulator to prepare for the next events. Today, on the contrary, the driver from Martina Franca climbed into the cockpit of the F1-75 with demo tires, in order to maintain contact with the track on an open-wheel top series single-seater.
A training session which, although it is on a car that is at least two seasons old as required by the regulations, is held on a single-seater that presents technical concepts from the current regulatory cycle and, therefore, is the tool that comes closest to the SF- 24, obviously excluding simulator work. An opportunity not only to accumulate kilometers, but also to find a point of contact with the experience in virtual reality.
For the Italian driver, this is the first seasonal outing at the wheel of a Formula 1 single-seater. The last time Giovinazzi drove a top-series car was last August, when he took to the track again at Fiorano but on the Ferrari SF-21, sharing the work with Robert Shwartzman, the other Cavallino reserve. In fact, it is good to keep in mind that, in the event of unavailability of one of the two official drivers, it will be one of the reserves who will get into the cockpit, as happened in Saudi Arabia.
As with Bearman, this test had already been scheduled for the Martina Franca driver several weeks ago, also taking advantage of the month's break between the first round of the WEC championship and the second stage, which will take place in Imola around mid-April.
