Montreal, Ferrari fined
The stewards of the Canadian Grand Prix sanctioned the Ferrari of 5 thousand euros for what happened in the very first minutes of FP2 in Montreal with Charles’ car Leclerc.
The Monegasque had taken to the track on intermediate tires before the session was declared wet by Race Director Niels Wittich, which conflicts with the sporting regulations (art. 30.5 l)).
The sanction
This is the commissioners’ document.
The rule is clear and Ferrari should have waited for Wittich’s green light to be safe, so the fine is not surprising. It was clear, however, that the conditions were not right to continue on slick tyres, also because it had been raining on the Quebec circuit for at least 15 minutes.
