Fernando Alonso is furious and doesn’t tell her, blatantly pointing the finger at the governing body of Formula 1, the FIA.
The Aston Martin Racing team driver was involved in the multiple contact at the first corner together with his teammate Lance Stroll, Lando Norris – the driver who suffered the most and ended up retiring after a few dozen meters – and Lewis Hamilton.
The Asturian, while he was intent on tackling the first corner, hooked up with Stroll on the left, while on the inside he was passed by Hamilton. According to Alonso, the seven-time world champion’s maneuver triggered the contact which then led to Norris’ retirement. Alonso, however, was forced to return during the Safety Car period, but finished in 17th position.
After arriving in Miami seeking answers as to why he had been sanctioned in the Shanghai Sprint Race after an incident with Sainz, he suggested that Hamilton would get away with whatever he did.
Asked whether the FIA should have taken action against Hamilton, Alonso told Dazn: “We’ll see what they decide. But I don’t think they’ll do anything, because Hamilton isn’t Spanish! But I think he ruined the race for some drivers, especially for Norris, who had a very fast car and found himself off the track due to that accident.”

Alonso said that, mindful of the penalties given to him in recent races, he did not want to take any risks in overtaking other cars once he found himself at the back.
“Maybe today I wasn’t penalized, but I always get penalized. I was behind Ocon, I could maybe risk overtaking him, but logically I didn’t risk it to avoid getting a penalty.”
“So I tried to complete the race, which was 19 laps, and go back to the pits to bring the car back to the team and make changes.”
At that point the Sprint proved to be a sort of test session for Aston Martin, used to better understand tire degradation for tomorrow’s race.
“We had no interest in the sprint race. We just wanted to control the degradation and things for tomorrow and, in the end, we succeeded. For us it was a free practice session rather than a real race,” he said. concluded Alonso.
