Jack Aitken returns to the wheel of a Williams. The British driver, who was the victim of a terrible accident in the initial stages of the Spa-Francorchamps 24 Hours last August, will be on track during the first free practice session of the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi.
Aitken, as mentioned, took a big risk last August when during the tenth lap of the 24 Hours of Spa he lost control of his Lamborghini Huracan on top of the Radillon and then crashed into the left barriers and bounced off the track.
Aitken’s Lamborghini was hit by Franck Perera’s car and subsequently Davide Rigon and Kévin Estre were also involved in the accident, unable to avoid the numerous wrecks scattered on the track.
The gruesome images raised fears for the worst, but fortunately Aitken suffered only fractures to the collarbone, a vertebra and a mild pulmonary contusion.
The Williams reserve driver had to stay away from racing for a long time to be able to carry out the full rehabilitation and today, through his Twitter profile, he announced that he had gone to the headquarters of the English team to test the car seat.
Aitken already last year had the opportunity to debut in Formula 1, again with Williams, on the occasion of the first free practice session of the Styrian GP and also in 2020 he played his first race at the Sakhir GP when he was called to take the post of George Russell loaned by the English team to Mercedes due to the unavailability of Lewis Hamilton positive for COVID. On that occasion Aitken finished the race in sixteenth position.
