Qualifying on Saturday 23rd October, on Sunday 24th the semifinals and the final of the format reserved for electric SUVs. All in the splendid setting of Capo Teulada, with a look and concrete help to the area affected by the fires
Originally the fourth stage of Extreme E, the new racing format dedicated to 100% electric SUVs driven by a crew of one man and one woman for each team, was to take place in Brazil. The pandemic situation in Latin America has upset the plans, and then Italy – and more precisely Sardinia – becomes the protagonist by hosting the penultimate stage of the championship, the first in Europe and after the show of the Arctic X Prix. The last race of the season, the one in Argentina, has also been replaced with the stage in England, which will be held on 18 and 19 December.
Extreme E: why Sardinia?
–
The aim of this championship is not only to bring people closer to zero emissions, by proposing exciting races of fully electric SUVs, but also to sensitize the entire world population to the worrying climate changes underway. It is for this reason that the races are held in remote places on the planet, in the most inaccessible areas of the Earth or where significant climate changes have recently occurred – or are taking place. With this in mind, with the cancellation of the stage in Brazil, Sardinia occupies a central role, hosting the training area of the Italian Army in Capo Teulada – the southernmost point of Sardinia – the Enel X Island X Prix , bringing the Extreme E to Europe for the first time. Places, the Sardinian ones, as fascinating as they are fragile, continually hit by environmental disasters. And unfortunately, yet another proof of this is the fires of the summer of 2021. In this regard, the “Green Carbon” initiative is worthy of note, to restore what the fires destroyed a few months ago. The organizers, together with Medsea (Fondazione Mediterraneo mare e costa), will work in a double direction. The aforementioned project joins the one called “Blue Carbon”, to mitigate the effects of pollution in the Mediterranean and conserve algae. “The island has suffered from the climate crisis”, attacks Alejandro Agag, founder and CEO of Extreme E. “It promises to be a spectacular race, but I am also pleased that our programs will focus both on land and at sea, through reforestation of the areas affected by the fires and through the conservation of algae “.
Extreme And Sardinia, the championship situation

Catie Munnings and Timmy Hansen (team Andretti United) occupy the third position, at 76 points, while the ABT Cupra team with Jutta Kleinschmidt and Mattias Ekstrom has so far scored 54 points.
