Save the date: on February 3, Extinction Rebellion will make life difficult for road users again.
We live a bad life, you live a bad life. That must be the credo of Extinction Rebellion. The club activists obviously have the right to protest and demonstrate, don't get us wrong. But of course the intention is that the hard-working citizen will be inconvenienced by this. Otherwise, such a protest would make little sense, of course.
In that respect, they are doing it smart at Extinction Rebellion, because AGAIN the team manages to make the news. They are going to block the A12 again. The date in question: Saturday, February 3. The goat wool sock brigade is going to do this because they want to take action against the fossil subsidies that the government is still paying out. Or better said, the government still offers companies that emit a lot of tax a lot of tax discounts.
Environmental club
Various groups from the environmental club will march through the city to ultimately arrive at their favorite stretch of highway: the tunnel near the A12.
It is not the first time that 'XR' has held promotions at the A12. They have already blocked the A12 more than 30 times. It seemed to make sense for a while when a bill was passed at the end of last year to withdraw the subsidies/discounts. However, it has now taken too long and XR seems to think that the government is backtracking. That's why they're going to block things again.
Sin sin sin
It is a real shame, because that section of the A12 (the Utrechtse Baan) is currently being renovated. The highway is planned to open again on… February 3! So as soon as driving is possible again, Extinction Rebellion will block everything.
Although every group has the right to protest and demonstrate, you can question the level of support. Just like the farmers' protests a while ago, these actions do not have to count on much sympathy from the population.
