The Ministry of Health, through the National Center for Child and Adolescent Health (Censia), ha extended its 2024 vaccination coverage recovery campaign until June 30. This expansion is a direct response to the need to achieve 90% annual vaccination coverage, a crucial objective to reduce health risks among the youngest.
The campaign is characterized by its comprehensive approach, which includes not only care in health units but also home visits and the installation of traveling modules. This strategy ensures that no child or adolescent is left without the necessary protectionregardless of your geographical location.
In all medical units of the 32 states of the country, permanent vaccination remains active during the campaign and will continue after its end to start or complete the vaccination schedules. The Ministry of Health has guaranteed the availability of essential vaccines such as those that prevent tuberculosis, poliomyelitis, hepatitis B, pneumococcus, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, measles, rubella, mumps, rotavirus and human papillomavirus (HPV), among others. of the Universal Vaccination Program.
The Importance of Vaccination: Protecting against Measles
A particular focus of this campaign is the prevention of measles, a highly contagious viral disease. The measles virus spreads through secretions from the nose and pharynx of infected people. Infection occurs mainly when a sick person coughs or sneezes, and saliva droplets enter the respiratory tract of those who have not been vaccinated.
The clinical picture of measles is characterized by fever, raised reddish spots distributed from the head to the extremities, eye irritation, colds and cough.. These spots usually last between four and seven days and disappear through peeling. Vaccination is essential to prevent the spread of this disease and avoid indigenous outbreaks in the country.
During the recovery campaign, measles, rubella and mumps (MMR) vaccines are given to children between one and nine years old, and the SR vaccine to adolescents between 10 and 19 years old. In addition, the hexavalent vaccine is administered to girls and boys from two to 11 months and one to four years.
The Ministry of Health urgently calls on fathers, mothers, guardians and caregivers of girls, boys and adolescents to take them to the medical units of the National Health System. Medical staff will review the National Health Card to ensure that no doses of the necessary vaccines are missing.
The Universal Vaccination Program operates every business day of the year in clinics and health centers in the sector, guaranteeing that every child and adolescent in Mexico has access to the vaccines they need for a healthy life.
