The Republican and Democratic parties are engaged in a fierce competition, on the eighth of next November, for the midterm elections for the US Congress, in what experts and analysts considered as a referendum on the Biden administration’s economic policies, as his Democratic Party currently dominates the two chambers of Congress, “Senate” and “Representatives”.
In statements to the “Union”, American experts and analysts expected the Republicans’ advance, which was also supported by recent opinion polls, although President Biden recently indicated a shift in favor of the Democrats at the end of the midterm elections campaign, thanks to what he described as “an improvement in the situation.” Economic.”
American political analyst Hadeel Owais expected that the “Republicans” will prevail significantly, especially with the weak economic performance of the Democrats during the Biden era, considering that the economic factor is the most important compass for the American voter in the elections.
However, the elections may carry surprises because the Republican Party is divided between a current that supports former President Donald Trump, and a current of “traditionalists” who are trying to dislodge votes close to Trump, and fear for the party’s future by strengthening the right wing.
Owais added to Al-Ittihad that Democrats are trying to raise issues such as abortion and women’s rights to motivate the left-wing electoral base to win the upcoming elections, but I do not expect that the voter will take into account any file more than the economic file, noting that there is a large American class that understands that economic inflation is a result of Global repercussions linked to “Corona” and the Ukrainian crisis.
With Biden in office, Democrats took control of both chambers of Congress, and then votes against the White House, and they made the January 6 riots the focus of congressional investigations.
But all of that will change if, at the very least, Republicans control one room in Congress, and Republicans vow to conduct detailed investigations into immigration policies, the withdrawal from Afghanistan, and the origins of the Corona pandemic.
John Phillip, a US domestic affairs analyst, agrees in that, pointing out that there is consensus among many congressional candidates with Trump, in terms of the ideas he advocated, such as an independent and strong American path.
