The car incentives 2022 they have been at the center of long discussions and the object of the desire of customers and car manufacturers who, together with the sector associations, asked for support from the government to overcome the moment of crisis. As expected, the third band of the eco-bonus, the one reserved for cars with emissions between 61 and 135 g / km it ran out in a very short time: only 20 days to burn the allocated funds, a result that on the one hand bodes well from the point of view of registrations but which in reality, if analyzed, highlights how the incentive structure, so conceived and with the changes made in the last decree does not make sense or is in any case widely revisable. Even the automotive brands themselves think so, as several numbers one of the international brands that operate on the Italian market have told us exclusively.
Such as Mazda, with the CEO Roberto Pietrantonio that during MIMO 2022, the Milano Monza Motor Show expressed its doubts about the structure of the eco-bonus: “I think they helped little. Many factors have contributed to this lack of success. For example, the repeated announcements, it is not possible to anticipate their arrival months and months before so when they left the consumers had the impression that they had already been operational for some time. As UNRAE then we had expressed various concerns, such as the fact of addressing only the private customer. We are well aware that today virtuous technologies such as electric are largely chosen by those who opt for long-term rental formulas. Without forgetting the companies. Not focusing on this led us to ask ourselves what the real goal of these incentives was. Certainly not very clear because it is true that they finished immediately (those in the 61-135 g / km range) but it was largely predictable. We will wait for those next year but even in this case having already announced them was not a congenial move. Resources for the sector are always welcome, but perhaps they should have been better addressed. ”
A position also shared by Giuseppe Bitti, Managing Director of Kia Italia: ““The intentions were probably good. Having a three-year structure certainly helps. However, I believe that there is a basic error, that of the budget for the third band (61-135 g / km, ed). The problem, however, is not so much to increase electrification but to stimulate the disposal of older cars in a country like Italy where there is an old-fashioned fleet. We should drastically increase this range and then rethink the terms of the 0-21 g / km range. It is not possible that the price ceiling for purchasing the cars covered by it is 10,000 lower than that of plug-in hybrids. Probably this is a political move and that’s okay but the problem is that from the point of view of recharging we are at a good point, the network has grown by 60%. Much more needs to be done but homogeneity of support for electrification is needed if we aim for the desired levels in the coming years. ”
Also Andrea CrespiHyundai’s number one in Italy made it clear that the funds for third-tier incentives were not inadequate, expressing concerns about how the eco-bonus was introduced: ““The progress of the ecological transition must obviously be accompanied, obviously, by incentives that make it possible to renew the fleet by facilitating this transition. In the most popular part of the market, the eco bonus went really fast and ran out too quickly. I think the way they were presented was not adequate, with a very early announcement and a very delayed rollout. We can do better but remember that we cannot renew the fleet in circulation and technologically backward if it is not accompanied by a direct stimulus to the consumer. “
