The ceremony was an important opportunity to remember one of the most emblematic figures in Genoese trade union history, who the Council of Ministers, upon a proposal from the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, decided to include in the Philatelic Plan for 2024, approved last April.
“We wanted to create a national philatelic plan with a precise political and cultural meaning, which touched on some of the main historical moments of our country. Among these, the memory of Guido Rossa, included in the section dedicated to civic sense, honors those who fought for democracy and against terrorism. The stamp is a piece of the collective memory, which aims to be a warning to counter every form of political violence, we want to reaffirm the value of the Italian steel industry and industry must remain one of the major manufacturing and steel powers in Europe and the world”, he has declared Adolfo Urso, Minister of Business and Made in Italy.
“The stamp we presented today is not just a tribute to Guido Rossa, but a tangible sign of our collective memory. It is a way to keep the memory of him alive in future generations and to reiterate our commitment to never forget that tragic page experienced by our country. Genoa is a city that has always been able to respond with dignity and firmness to the most difficult challenges. The story of Guido Rossa is but one chapter of our incessant effort to build a more just and safer society”, he added Marco Bucci, mayor of Genoa.
The event also represented a moment of reflection on the relaunch path undertaken by Acciaierie d’Italia to allow, on the one hand, the production resumption of the factories and, on the other, guarantee the execution of maintenance activities aimed at re-establishing safety and continuity in the production levels of the plants, as well as ensuring the employment of collaborators.
“Guido Rossa was a symbolic figure of courage and trade union commitment, whose memory must be preserved and honoured. The presentation of the commemorative stamp is not only a tribute to his memory, but also a tangible sign of respect from the entire community towards his work. Today’s initiative also represents an opportunity to share with citizens the commitment of Acciaierie d’Italia to re-establish production, reliability and quality of the plants as a crucial objective to guarantee the operation of the production cycle”, he has declared Giancarlo Quaranta, extraordinary commissioner of Acciaierie d’Italia in AS.
