Ex-cop Chauvin convicted of killing African-American Floyd gets another term
Former police officer Derek Chauvin, convicted of killing African-American George Floyd, received another term for violating the victim’s civil rights. This is reported NBC.
The ex-cop is already serving a 22.5-year prison sentence after Minnesota authorities found him guilty of second- and third-degree murder last April.
Now the judge has sentenced the former policeman to 252 months in prison, deducting seven months from them, which Chauvin has already served. Both sentences will be executed simultaneously.
On May 25, 2020, police officer Derek Chauvin killed 46-year-old African American George Floyd during his detention in Minneapolis. The police laid the suspect on the pavement, and Chauvin held Floyd by stepping on his neck with his knee. The detainee complained that he had nothing to breathe, and then lost consciousness. He was taken to the hospital, where he soon died.
